Our Story
Our Story
Retro on 8th is a brick and mortar store located in the Historic Homestead district of Pittsburgh, PA. Proprietors Jennifer Horovitz and Hayley Kile have been collecting mid-century modern furniture and collectibles together for over twenty years. It began with a true love of the design, the surprises that modernism provides, the function and the beauty.
That delight endures and hopefully is evident in both our store and our website. We really enjoy creating a unique space in our store and have received many compliments about the way we arrange and group pieces to create room set-ups. We have hosted photo shoots, live music events and have rented merchandise to theater and movie organizations. We have heard repeatedly from customers that our store is move-in ready and that is exactly what they want to do!
Who We Are
Both Jennifer and Hayley are products of 70′s music, pop art, media and consumerism. We relish our childhoods and enjoy passing on our memories of Big Wheels, transistor radios, Kiss, Kool-Aid, Wacky Packs and baseball cards that actually came with gum, skateboards, watching Saturday Morning Cartoons and American Bandstand on a shag rug, and creating worlds out of Knoll modular furniture.
It is our love of the design, the research, the way of life of the 50′s thru the 70′s that feeds our obsession with modernism. Of course the items on this website are only a small representation of our inventory. We have games, toys, albums and 8 tracks, vintage clothing and accessories and much more. To give you an idea of some of the pieces we had in the past, please look at our Sold Items. We don’t mind questions, what are you looking for? Thanks for checking us out.
