Fantastic early 1900's portable writing box or travel desk made by W&J Milne, known "box makers" in business from 1844 - 1905. They were know for their leather work, often using exotic woods and ivory implements. This box is rather plain wood and is missing the key but still has charm with leather covered slots and organizers inside. The light is a mystery... we think it has a striker and maybe storage for matches? 18.5" x 12.5" x 7.5"
